LIVE BLOG: Duke 77, Maryland 56 (FINAL)

Duke 77-56, FINAL: Scheyer knocks down two free throws to retake the scoring lead for Zoubek--and from Vasquez for the game--and he, Singler, Zoubek and Thomas sat out the last two minutes. This may not have been as dominating of a performance as a year ago, but the Blue Devils got it done behind a stellar rebounding effort from Zoubek. Check back with dukechronicle.com for analysis of Duke's ninth ACC win.

Duke 67-47, SECOND HALF 2:56 remaining: Zoubek has definitely been the player of the game. He's cleaning up everything around the basket with 17 boards--11 of those on the offensive end--and he's got 16 points to boot, making him co-leading scorer with Scheyer. Duke has been free to run out the clock and take late shots because Zoubek is just everywhere pulling down rebounds.

Duke 61-44, SECOND HALF 7:21 remaining: Scheyer's been a little quiet in this half, but he just had a nice drive inside, drew a foul on a ball fake and converted for the and-one. He's got 16, one of four Blue Devils in double digits (Singler, Smith and Zoubek each have 10).

Duke 54-42, SECOND HALF 10:00 remaining: Looks like my previous statement was misguided. Vasquez came back from a brief rest (seems to have worked) and is spearheading a run to keep the Terps in the game. He has seven straight points, including a ballsy 3-pointer early in the shot clock with a hand in his face, forcing Coach K to call time. That was Maryland's first three of the game.

Duke 54-34, SECOND HALF 12:46 remaining: Maryland was starting to make a run at the foul line, but a couple of key baskets from Smith--as well as a timely putback from Scheyer--have the Blue Devils back up 20. Is this the run that officially breaks the game open?

Duke 48-28, SECOND HALF 15:23 remaining: Nolan Smith may not be scoring much tonight, but he has done a great job of getting his teammates involved, feeding Thomas for an elbow jumper on the first play of the half. He's also attracting defenders in the lane, so even when he misses, Duke's big men are open for the tip-in.

But the play of the game thus far has been from Brian Zoubek. After Singler missed a three from the top of the key, Zoubek slammed in the putback with authority, getting the whole crowd roaring, including a raucous ovation from former teammates Greg Paulus and Dave McClure, as well as J.J. Redick.

MORE HALFTIME:

Scheyer has 11 on 3-of-3 shooting from the field, Singler's got eight and Mason Plumlee and Zoubek have chipped in seven and six, respectively. Smith has only scored two points, but he has five assists. Maryland has nine turnovers and is 0-for-7 on 3-pointers.

HALFTIME: Duke Basketball is honoring members of each decade of the program's history since the team has played at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Biggest cheer thus far for Art Heyman, but we're barely in the 1960s.

We're into the 1990s, but no sign of Hill (Thomas or Grant) or Laettner.

Finally, a standing ovation for J.J. Redick, Duke's all-time leading scorer and 2006 National Player of the Year.

Duke 40-24, END OF FIRST HALF: Duke has led this one from the opening tip, and heads into halftime with a 16-point lead. The Blue Devils had stretched the lead to 18, but more poor transition defense with just a few seconds left on the clock allowed Maryland to cut it to 16.

Scheyer leads all scorers with 11 points.

Duke 32-20, FIRST HALF 3:27 remaining: Scheyer just drew a foul in the lane, but the Blue Devils have struggled during this last stretch, managing only two points off of a rare Ryan Kelly jumper. Duke is missing a lot of threes, and the Terrapins are burning the Blue Devils in transition. On the last play, Landon Milbourne easily went coast-to-coast after Kelly missed a three and had no chance of catching Milbourne on defense.

Duke 30-14, FIRST HALF 7:29 remaining: Cliff Tucker finally has the Terrapins doing something on offense with six quick points, but they're still hard-pressed to stop the Blue Devils. The last time these two teams met, Duke had a number of highlight-worthy plays in transition off of steals, and is doing much of the same today. Smith just hit Scheyer in the corner on the break for a wide-open three after Singler nailed a three from the elbow the possession before.

Duke 20-6, FIRST HALF 11:00 remaining: Zoubek enjoying a stellar game so far with a couple of very solid defensive plays as well as six points, and the Blue Devils have already tripled up the Terps. Williams was forced to use another timeout to try to figure out what to do with his team, as Vasquez is 0-for-4 and Maryland hasn't had consecutive offensive possessions without a turnover.

Duke 16-6, FIRST HALF 12:46 remaining: Maryland head coach Gary Williams was forced to call a timeout after a rare alley-oop in transition from Smith to Mason Plumlee, and everything seems to be clicking for the Blue Devils right now. The Plumlees appear to be working better in tandem, as the younger already has four points.

Former player sightings so far: Dave McClure...and no one else I recognize.

Duke 9-6, FIRST HALF 15:57 remaining: Thomas looks perfectly fine to me, fully active on the defensive end--the Blue Devils have already forced a few turnovers--and even draining two free throws after drawing contact on layup. Also, after getting their first real playing time together at North Carolina, the Plumlee Bros. have checked in together for Thomas and Zoubek.

PREGAME: We're here at Cameron Indoor Stadium as the No. 8 Blue Devils--fresh off a 64-54 win over North Carolina Wednesday--take on Maryland, the only other team in the ACC with just two conference losses. It's head coach Mike Krzyzewski's 1000th game coaching at Duke. In attendance at the game are over 300 former members of the program, and one future one: 2010 recruit Josh Hairston is right behind the bench.

The big news so far is that Lance Thomas will be playing. After suffering a bone bruise and missing the majority of the second half against the Tar Heels, the senior co-captain is suited up today.
