Thanks for bringing Jamie Dimon

In response to the Oct. 20 letter to the editor "Fuqua mistake explains financial crisis," by Andrew Tutt, I am incensed and insulted by the comparison made of Fuqua students' organizing an event to those who are trying to wrestle through this extremely serious global financial meltdown--it shows a complete and utter disregard for the facts and the situation as well as a lack of respect for those who organized the event.

I was fortunate enough to get in to hear Jamie Dimon speak. When I heard about the event I appreciated immediately that it would be popular beyond belief and beyond the capacity of any auditorium on campus-I don't think it takes a genius to realize this. Understanding the "risk" that I might not get in I arrived at 5 p.m. sharp and was rewarded for my foresight and planning. People who arrived after 5:20 p.m. were refused entry for safety reasons-this clearly demonstrates that the Fuqua students who organized this event are not grossly incompetent but put people's safety above anything else. If you place sufficient value on getting in to such an event then why show up just 10 minutes before? Surely you knew that it was probably going to be one of the most popular events on campus this year. The fact that Dimon found time in his extremely pressing schedule to come and speak here illustrates the respect that he holds for school and those who come to Fuqua to learn. I encourage Tutt to consider the bigger picture: It is vitally important for the future of the speaker series and the reputation of Fuqua that these kinds of events be well attended so as to ensure speakers like Dimon continue to visit and share their views with us. Please address your concerns with the organizers directly before making accusatory remarks about their competency in the context of the global financial crisis. I thank the Distinguished Speaker organizers at Fuqua for bringing Dimon to Duke.
