Nelson Tries To Be Golden in Vegas

Although many of the Duke-related stories coming out of the sin city this summer have revolved around Coach K and the Olympic team, former Blue Devil guard DeMarcus Nelson has been trying to earn a shot at the Golden State Warriors' preseason camp in October. After going undrafted in June, Nelson inked a free-agent deal with the Warriors July 2, commissioning his services for the team's summer league competitions in both Vegas and Salt Lake City.

In case your wondering, Nelson put up seven points on 3-for-4 shooting in Golden State's 99-93 victory Tuesday night. For what it's worth, the guard also went 1-for-5 from the charity stripe in his eight minutes of action, which might not bode so well in trying to impress the Warriors.

It will be a long road to the Big Show for Nelson, but also one he is proving unafraid to travel.

The Chronicle Sports Blog will continue to post updates on Nelson's progress. Or, if your Friday night looks particularly slow, you can log on to nba.com and watch for yourself as the Warriors take on the Kings at 10 p.m. EST. The video of the game streams live and is free of charge. What else would you want to be doing on a lovely summer evening?
