Drowsy driver detained

Officers responded to a report of a person asleep behind the wheel of a vehicle in the intersection of Anderson Street and Erwin Road Nov. 7 at 1:20 a.m. When officers arrived they found Jose Hernandez (Born May 11, 1974, of 211 Trinity Ave.) asleep at the wheel with the engine running at the intersection. Officers determined that Hernandez was intoxicated at the time and charged him with Driving While Impaired. Hernandez was taken to the Durham County Magistrate’s Office where he was placed under a $1,000 secured bond. His court date is set for Dec. 21. Hernandez could not be reached for comment.

 

Where’s the fire?

Officers responded to a report of vandalism in Wannamaker residence hall Nov. 6 at 4:33 a.m. When officers arrived, they cited Alexander Volsky (Born June 17, 1985, 010 Wannamaker) with molesting fire Equipment by discharging a fire extinguisher in the hall when there was no fire present. Volsky could not be reached for comment. His court date is set for Dec. 21.

 

Car keyed

A student reported damage to his 2000 Toyota 4-Runner, parked in the blue zone parking lot Nov. 6. The student said he parked his vehicle in the lot at 8:30 p.m. Nov. 4. When he returned to the lot at 2 p.m. Nov. 5, he found a long scratch running the entire left side of his vehicle. Damage to his vehicle is estimated at $500.

 

Purse pillaged

An employee reported the theft of $380 in cash from her purse at Duke Hospital Nov. 7. The employee said the money was taken out of her purse sometime between 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Nov. 7 while she was working at the hospital.

 

Construction equipment nabbed

An employee reported the theft of several tools from the Nasher Museum construction site Nov. 5. The employee said a Steel K-700 Quickie Saw valued at $2,500, a DeWalt cordless drill valued at $100 and two 4 1/2” Bosch angle saws each valued at $160 each were taken from the construction site.

 

Cell phone swiped

A visitor reported the theft of her Nextel cell phone from the radiology department at Duke Hospital Nov. 5. The visitor reported that the phone was stolen sometime around 12:30 a.m. Nov. 5. The stolen phone is valued at $150.

 

Wallet pilfered

A visitor reported the theft of her wallet, containing $50 in cash, from a clinic in Duke Clinics building Nov. 5. The visitor said the wallet was stolen between 3 p.m. and 4:21 p.m. Nov. 5. The stolen wallet and contents are valued at $100.

 

Totally different wallet pilfered

A visitor reported the theft of her wallet from an office in Hanes House Nov. 5. The visitor said she left her wallet in an office for less than 15 minutes between 3:45 p.m. and 4 p.m. Nov. 5. When she returned to the office the wallet was missing. The wallet, containing $5 in cash and various identification and credit cards, is valued at $80.
