Student distributes alcohol at weekend festivities

Officers responded to a noise complaint on Central Campus Oct. 24. When they arrived, officers found a Central Campus apartment resident hosting a party at which he was serving alcohol to underage students.

Officers charged Sumesh Chopra (DOB July 1, 1984, 220 Alexander St. Apt. F) with underage possession of alcohol and aiding and abetting the consumption of alcohol by underage persons.

Chopra could not be reached for comment. His court date is set for Nov. 22.

 

Crook pays for treatment with fraudulent cash payment

An employee reported Oct. 22 a counterfeit $100 bill was used to pay for treatment in a Duke Clinic. Officers responded to the clinic at 3:20 p.m. Oct. 22 to investigate the incident.

The fake bill was turned over to officers as evidence. No charges have been filed in this incident.

Thief loots pickup truck

An employee reported a break-in Oct. 21 to his 1994 Dodge pickup truck, parked near the Teer Engineering Library area on Science Drive.

The employee said he parked his truck at 4 p.m. Oct. 21. When he returned to the vehicle at 8 p.m. the same day he found someone had taken his wallet, which contained $20 cash and various identification cards.

There was no damage to the vehicle. The stolen items are valued at $65.

Chips stolen from computers in storage

An employee reported Oct. 20 the theft of 15 512 MB RAM chips from computers stored in a storage room at Parking Garage II. The employee said the computers were stored in the room between May 10 and Aug. 16. When the computers were moved back into the department’s offices they did not work and the theft of the chips was discovered. The missing RAM chips are valued at $1,125.

Tool chest ransacked in CIEMAS building

An employee reported the theft of hand tools Oct. 21 from a tool chest in the Center for Interdisciplinary Engineering, Medicine and Applied Sciences building.

The employee said the tools were last seen in the building at 3 p.m. Oct. 20 and were discovered missing at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 21. A Craftsman drill valued at $150 and other tools valued at $100 were reported stolen.
