Tennis falters at ITA tournament

Duke's men's tennis team might indeed be in some need of muscle relaxant after a tough weekend at the Icy Hot/ITA All-American Men's Tennis Championships at the Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Duke head coach Jay Lapidus saw both of his doubles teams eliminated from competition Friday.

Blue Devil's Ludovoic Walter and Jason Zimmermann advanced to the quarterfinals of the tournament, where they narrowly lost to second-ranked Lester Cook and Ante Matijecvic of Texas A&M (9-8). Walter and Zimmerman defeated David Lingman and Mark Riddell of Harvard in the first round (8-6) and took down Bryan Fisher and Jason Hazley of LSU in the second round (8-3).

The other Duke doubles team, Stephen Amrtiraj and Phillip King, was also eliminated in close fashion, in the first round to Dimitiny Koch and Michael Kogan of Tulane (9-8).

In addition, Duke's Walter lost Thursday in the opening round of singles play (6-3, 6-2) to Pierrick Ysern of San Diego.
