K-ville ticket system assures Crazy fans

I am writing to respond to Yod Sawamiphakdi's Sept. 5 letter to the editor. Sawamiphakdi does not seem to understand what makes Cameron the special place it is. Cameron is not special just because it is the home of the University's basketball stadium. Rather, it has gotten its reputation because of the Cameron Crazies-and part of being a Cameron Crazy is camping out for the big games.

Although I will concede that at times this process seems unfair to those people who do not have the time or energy to camp out, it is actually the fairest entrance policy possible. Many schools (including UNC) have a random lottery, which means that the person who is first in line (implying he or she has been there the longest) may not get tickets. In general "first come first served" is the best way to go, since it guarantees that the die-hard fans are present at the games. If you do not want to spend the time waiting to get into a game, then be happy with your corner seats or stay home and watch it on TV! You mention in your letter that the people in the tents get to select their tent mates. Of course they do! Would you rather be assigned to a random tent?

Krzyzewski-ville is more than a bunch of students waiting in line, it is a way to show our support for our team outside of a game setting. Coach K has often remarked about how the team loves to come back from road trips to see everyone at K-ville. If you really want to get good seats at games, why don't you spend less time complaining about K-ville policies and go start your own tent! That way, you would be in control of where you sit. What happened to the days when Duke students actively solved their problems instead of going home and crying to mom.
