Council contemplates placing graduate dormitory on East

The Graduate and Professional Student Council discussed possibilities of adding a new dormitory for graduate students on East Campus at the last meeting of the semester Monday.

"The question of East Campus is a very old one," said Shelton Waldrep, GPSC representative on the President's Advisory Council on Resources. "Since 1973, no one has been able to give East Campus an identity."

A dorm for graduate and professional students might be suggested to PACOR, Waldrep said. This dorm would be especially helpful for international students and students who do not have their own transportation, he said.

Graduate students could also take advantage of the recreational and social spaces East Campus offers, Waldrep said.

Though a definite proposal has not yet been made, there is the possibility of creating a space for graduate students to congregate socially on East. Other suggestions of possible sites for a meeting place are on Broad Street off East Campus, he said.

Janet Dickerson, vice-president for student affairs, is working to further explore these possibilities, Waldrep said.

IN OTHER BUSINESS: GPSC allocated $300 to start a database to file GPSC membership and committee records on computer.

Another database will also be created to keep records of basketball season ticket purchases by graduate students. The database will allow membership files to be more easily updated, said Richard Larsen, GPSC president and a student at the Fuqua School of Business.

GPSC also elected representatives to serve on the trustee and president's committees for the following academic year.
