The NC Education Lottery is arguably a regressive tax on the state’s geographically marginalized, functioning as a wolf clothed in the wool of potential financial freedom.
We would all face immeasurable loss if the ivory gates of elite universities–like the one we ourselves attend–are once again distanced from students who have historically been barred from reaping their benefits.
As students attending a university with a privileged position in the local economy and politics, what responsibility falls on us to work towards reparations and dispelling the long-held trope of the ignorant, uncaring Duke student?
