Duke women's basketball fell short against UConn. But that shouldn't detract from a promising, gritty season

Much like Saturday night against a star-studded UConn team, Duke pushed through injuries, roster construction uncertainty and a tough early season schedule. Nothing was handed to the Blue Devils all year. Truly, Lawson’s squad deserved all that came its way, including the first Sweet 16 appearance under her leadership.

In a true back-and-forth contest, the seventh-seeded Blue Devils fell to No. 2-seed N.C. State 54-51 in a raucous ACC tournament quarterfinal contest. For the Wolfpack, Aziaha James led the way with 16 points and eight rebounds in a 39-minute performance. On the other side of the ball, Oluchi Okananwa led Duke with a 12-point, 11-rebound double-double.
