Program records fall as Duke swimming and diving takes third at N.C. State GAC Invite

After falling just short of N.C. State at October’s home opener, Duke looked to return the favor at the Wolfpack’s own invitational this weekend. Both the Blue Devils’ mens and womens teams took third this weekend at the NC State GAC Invite at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.

The Blue Devils notched a number of top-three finishes in their second meet of the year.

The No. 19 Duke women will host No. 4 N.C. State and the Blue Devil men will take on Northwestern Saturday at Taishoff Aquatics Pavilion. Diving will begin at 10 a.m., with the rest of the meet commencing at 11 a.m.

Senior Ashleigh Shanley won the 100-yard breaststroke this weekend, one of several standout for the Blue Devil women as they compiled a 3-0 record.

Duke swimming and diving men and women combine to go 5-1 at Virginia Tech quad meet

The Blue Devils finished a two-day quad meet with Virginia Tech, West Virginia and William and Mary at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center in Christianburg, Va., with a perfect 3-0 record on the women's side and a 2-1 mark on the men's side.

The Blue Devils return several NCAA championship qualifiers and added a top-15 recruiting class on the women's side.

Three more Duke swimmers earn invitations to NCAA championships

Sophomores Leah Goldman and Isa Paez and junior Maddie Rusch earned invitations to the 2016 NCAA championships in Atlanta March 17-19 based on their season-best times in their signature events.

The Blue Devils closed out the ACC championships in eighth place with 643 points, a jump of more than 200 points from last year's ninth-place showing.

Entering the meet seeded third and just 0.32 off of the A standard time, the quartet of Kaz Takabayashi, Peter Kropp, David Armstrong and James Peek earned their second automatic qualification to the NCAA championships in as many years with a new program-best swim of 1:25.00.

After the women finished sixth last week, the No. 19 Duke men will take to the pool this week for the ACC Championships in Greensboro, N.C., against four other ranked teams.
