Duke wrestling continues losing skid, falls at home to N.C. State

(02/19/24 2:15am)

Duke’s disappointing season continued Sunday against No. 8 N.C. State in Cameron Indoor Stadium, as the Blue Devils fell by a score of 36-9. The contest began with a celebration of Duke’s six senior wrestlers, and ended in a thoroughly dominant Wolfpack victory. The Blue Devils’ defeat was the team’s seventh in a row, and 31st consecutive in ACC play across the past six years.

CS Majors launch 'ambiguous and labelless relationship' pact

(02/19/24 5:00am)

It’s the week after Valentine’s Day, and perhaps you — like thousands of other students at Duke — are still single and contemplating if you’ll ever be loved. You are not alone: Marriages are in decline. Birth rates are down. Depression and isolation are at record levels in the United States. In 2023, the US “epidemic of loneliness” was declared a public health crisis. All around, people are more disconnected. But never fear — as always, a group of Duke CS majors has developed a solution.

The fear of being single

(02/19/24 5:00am)

Valentine’s Day is my least favorite holiday. No, it’s not because I’m single and bitter — only one of those is true, you can guess which. My main issue lies in the societal fear-mongering and hetero- and mononormativity — the privileging of opposite-sex and monogamous relationships, respectively — of it all.

Stanley Cup hype: Have we normalized commodity fetishism?

(02/18/24 2:00pm)

On TikTok, the hashtag “#StanleyCup” has 7.3 billion views. Simultaneously, on the news, people poured into Target for a limited version of the Stanley Cup, even though they’ve likely hoarded four or five Stanley Cups already. What is so unique about the Stanley Cup? While some claim it is a source of emotional support, others see it as a millennial aesthetic. By routinely releasing limited versions with different colors, Stanley Cups possess a quality that is desirable among Gen Z girls.

5 observations from No. 9 Duke men's basketball's first half against Florida State

(02/17/24 7:55pm)

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.—On the back of a three-game winning run at home, No. 9 Duke made the trip down to Tallahassee Saturday afternoon looking for its first away win since a loss at North Carolina. Heading into the halftime locker room, the Blue Devils lead Florida State 44-34:

Duke men's basketball sophomore guard Tyrese Proctor out against Florida State with a concussion

(02/17/24 6:35pm)

Sophomore point guard Tyrese Proctor did not travel with the Duke men’s basketball team to Tallahassee, Fla., for its Saturday game against Florida State due to a concussion. Proctor suffered a collision to his head in the team’s Monday game against Wake Forest, and played sparingly in the second half of that game.
