After careful consideration, DukeAfrica is pleased to endorse Isaiah Hamilton as our next DSG president. After interviewing all three candidates, Isaiah's passion for creating more community on campus has stuck out most to us. In this current political climate (particularly as we await news regarding Affirmative Action), Isaiah stresses that Duke as a community cannot afford to be complacent in making sure that all black students' needs and concerns are heard and addressed. Isaiah is also most aware of needs concerning African students on campus such as making the Mary Lou more of a space for all of the Black diaspora. He is passionate about making our current curriculum more inclusive (hopefully including languages across Africa to fulfill the Foreign Language requirement) and hiring more professors of color.

I’ll admit that the title of this piece is directly inspired by Susan Glasser’s current column for the New Yorker. Every Friday, Glasser relays a summary of the most soap opera-esque political happenings of the past 7 days in Washington. In her well-oiled, snappy tone, she often leaves the reader with an almost tangible sense of fear regarding our country’s ever weakening grip on sanity, morality, and/or democracy. Some would argue that a healthy amount of fear about the current state of political affairs is well warranted, and mind you I do not completely disagree. However, if given the chance, I will not hesitate to frolic to my heart’s content underneath the cherry blossom trees that frame Washington’s National Mall – all the while sipping on an objectively overpriced iced coffee and doing my best to embody Scandal’s Olivia Pope.

The ACC is the most loaded conference in Division I women’s basketball. ESPN’s newest Bracketology projection had the conference sending nine teams to the NCAA tournament, and there are currently four squads ranked in the AP Top 25. Given the talent and depth of the conference this year, No. 13 Duke will have a difficult path in its search for its first conference tournament title since 2013. The Blue Devils may very well face nationally ranked teams in all three of their ACC tournament games.

Duke’s star power at the plate was on full display this weekend, with a 10-3 win Sunday against Baylor to sweep the three-game series, and decisive wins of 20-1 Friday and 22-3 Saturday. While they did get off to a slower start Sunday than in the previous two games, once the Blue Devils turned it into overdrive, they did not let up. The eighth inning saw big hits from Andrew Fischer, Jay Beshears, Alex Stone and MJ Metz that busted the game open for the Blue Devils, who tallied six runs to extend their lead from 4-3 to the final 10-3. With that, they sent the Bears back to Waco, Texas, with three more in the loss column.
