DUKE 72 VA. TECH 65 -- FINAL -- C'mon! One point off on the score this time. Time to hit the interview room...it's conceivable that I'll check in before we leave, but more likely not. I'm just being honest.

DUKE 72 VA. TECH 65 -- FINAL -- C'mon! One point off on the score this time. Time to hit the interview room...it's conceivable that I'll check in before we leave, but more likely not. I'm just being honest.
Abbreviated version, folks, as it's Friday night and I've got an early-morning drive to Blacksburg to look forward to tomorrow, so let's get right to the good stuff:
I'll be honest; I'm watching UConn-Marquette, so this might be a bit scattered. Apologies.
THE CONTENTS: No. 9 Duke hosts No. 8 Wake Forest at 7:45 p.m. Sunday night at Cameron Indoor Stadium. You can see the game on FSN (I think with Brando and Gminski) and hear it on 620 AM (I know with Harris and Roth).
THE CONTENTS: No. 9 Duke goes out of conference and into the Big Apple to battle St. John's at 7 p.m. at the World's Most Famous Arena. You can see the game with Brent Musberger and Bob Knight on ESPN and hear it on 620 AM.
My colleague Joe Drews made a bold move earlier this week by blaming Sunday's loss in Chestnut Hill on his ludicrous road record as a reporter. I, too, have felt the sting of superstition, owning a 1-5 record covering conference road games in my Chronicle career.
THE CONTENTS: No. 6 (for now) Duke heads north to take on Boston College at 5:30 at Silvio O. Conte Forum. You can see the game on FSN South with Tim Brando and Mike Gminski and hear it on 620 AM.
I knew if I didn’t write about this immediately following the game, I wouldn’t want to return to it. But, here goes (oh, and bear with the indulgent and whiny selfishness).
THE CONTENTS: It's another ho-hum midweek game in the ACC, as No. 6 Duke hosts No. 3 North Carolina. Or, it's the best rivalry in sports. Matter of semantics.
It's an abbreviated version this week because a.) it's Friday night and b.) it's Miami.
CLEMSON 74 DUKE 47 -- FINAL -- Ben Cohen checking in from 301 Flowers as Tim and Gabe make their way through the scrum on the court for post-game interviews. Some basic statistics from a rudimentary look through the media guide (feel free to correct us if we're wrong):
THE CONTENTS: Another Wednesday, another road tilt with a top-10 team. No. 4 Duke, down three spots after its loss to Wake Forest, travels southwest to Littlejohn Coliseum to take on No. 10 Clemson at 9 p.m. You can see the game on ESPN with Mike Patrick, Jay Bilas and Heather Cox or hear it locally on 620 AM.
WAKE 70 DUKE 68 -- FINAL SCORE -- On the inbounds play, Duke was ready for Teague, but they forgot about James Johnson who cut sharply to the basket for a contested but all-too-easy layup.
THE CONTENTS: Newly-minted No. 1 Duke travels to former No. 1 and currently sixth-ranked Wake Forest Wednesday night at 7 p.m. You can catch the game on ESPN with Mike Patrick and Dick Vitale and on 620 AM.
Looking at some of the stories being written in the aftermath of Duke's 85-44 thrashing of Maryland Saturday afternoon at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Permit me some gratuitous nostalgia. Some 15 years ago, I was the starting point guard for what many consider the greatest basketball team comprised only of third-graders in modern American history. In our 10 games--all victories--we averaged roughly 40 points per game and never surrendered more than 14. While we were busy running plays--I was particularly awestruck by the simple and alliterative genius of the give-and-go (maybe because it ended with me attempting a layup 75% of the time)--the kids on other teams routinely showed up in jeans and Vans.
THE CONTENTS: No. 2 Duke looks to move up to the top spot in the country for the first time in three years when it hosts Maryland Saturday at noon at Cameron Indoor Stadium. You can catch the game on ESPN with Mike Patrick and Len Elmore and special sideline reporter Abby Waner and hear it locally on 620 AM.
THE CONTENTS: No. 2 Duke plays host to that other cross-town rival, North Carolina State, tonight at 8 p.m. at snowy Cameron Indoor Stadium. The game can be seen on Raycom with Steve Martin and the original G-Man, Mike Gminski, and heard on 620 AM with Bob Harris and John Roth.
Turns out the best sporting event of the weekend was just down the road in Winston-Salem, where No. 4 Wake Forest continued No. 3 North Carolina's ACC slide by holding off the Tar Heels, 92-89.
THE CONTENTS: No. 2 Duke travels to treacherous Tallahassee Saturday to battle unranked Florida State in the Blue Devils' first conference road game of the season at 2 p.m. You can see the game on ESPN with Mike Patrick and Jay Bilas and hear it on 620 AM.
