(03/29/17 4:00am)

The way the crowd was singing along, you would never guess that Hippo Campus had just released its first full-length album less than a month ago. Hippo Campus, the young band from St. Paul, Minn., played to a sold-out Cat’s Cradle in Carrboro on Saturday, and the members did not hesitate to instantly hook themselves into the positive feedback loop of energy between the crowd and the stage.

(03/10/16 7:54am)

So, let’s get the important stuff out of the way. Leonardo DiCaprio won an Academy Award on Sunday. Yes, that Leonardo DiCaprio. America’s sweetheart. The Internet’s endless source of entertainment and memes. The man who could’ve totally fit on that piece of wood at the end of the Titanic and didn’t for some reason. The guy with this meme.

Editors' Note, 4/9

(04/09/15 11:18am)

It certainly doesn’t seem like it, but here we are at the end of the year. And somehow, over the smell of construction and lacking food options on campus, we can smell summer just around the corner. This will be the one. The summer of hope and love and job opportunities and cruising around the city/suburb with the windows down and hands hanging out. But, let’s be honest. It’s not summer without a playlist to accompany those long drives and bonfire-filled nights. So, in the style of our inspiration, role model and past Recess Music Editor, MC Bousquette, we are going to present you with a playlist to help your summer along.

Editor's Note 2/5

(02/05/15 11:22am)

I struggled to write this editor’s note. With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, I knew that I wanted to write about relationships and romance. But, the thing was, I had already done that last semester. Sure, discussing how to make a perfect hookup playlist didn’t really delve into the nature of love, but it touched on the subject.

Editor's Note, 10/23

(10/23/14 7:18am)

It seems that there are two universal playlists for the Duke student: the homework playlist and the hookup playlist. With the advent of services like Spotify, one can find numerous examples of either of these with a simple search. In fact, I’ve even had ads on Spotify suggest that I should listen to the “PERFECT baby-making playlist” or “enjoy these relaxing tunes while studying!”
