The 2017-18 Duke men's basketball power rankings, by no real criteria

(11/01/17 6:39am)

There are 15 men between the ages of 18 and 22 on the Blue Devils’ roster heading into the season. Knowing Mike Krzyzewski, approximately eight of those 15 men will actually play basketball between November and March. But judging by last year’s injury luck, all 15 will play meaningful minutes somehow, so here’s a ranking of the entire roster, only measured in small part by basketball talent.

Sunday unrest

(09/06/17 5:31am)

Thursday night at 8:30, the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots—led by Tom Brady and his formidable cast of playmakers—will take on receiver Tyreek Hill and the far less talented Kansas City Chiefs’ supporting cast. The coaching genius of Bill Belichick versus Andy Reid, who has somehow used all of his timeouts before the game even started. An indomitable football force versus a team waiting for an excuse to start its rookie quarterback.

Duke men's lacrosse sneaks into NCAA tournament following 18-8 rout of Boston University

(05/08/17 7:39pm)

Heading into its final regular-season game after a deflating loss to Notre Dame in the ACC Tournament semifinals, the prevailing sentiment was that if Duke could not get past a scrappy Boston University team, it could miss the postseason for the first time in a decade.

Rocket power: Jack Bruckner's hot start, strong defense power Duke men's lacrosse to key win against No. 4 Notre Dame

(04/08/17 8:56pm)

Facing a Notre Dame program that had upended the Blue Devils four straight times in Durham, Duke wanted to get off to a strong start with second place in the ACC on the line after falling behind 6-1 to then-No. 18 North Carolina last week.

From catalyst to coach: Matt Danowski mentors Duke men's lacrosse attackmen 10 years after landmark Tewaaraton Award

(04/05/17 4:50am)

When Duke beat Jacksonville in March, Blue Devil head coach John Danowski made history with his NCAA Division I record 376th career win. Standing next to him on the sideline for the seminal victory was his son—assistant coach and former Blue Devil great Matt Danowski.

Patience is a virtue

(03/21/17 5:14am)

I grew up as a Michigan football fan, meaning that in December 2014, I watched the rumors that the program would hire Jim Harbaugh with bated breath. After suffering through Brady Hoke’s rocky tenure in Ann Arbor, and ultimately the 5-7 season that earned Hoke his walking papers, a historic college football blue blood had found its savior.

Duke men's lacrosse head coach John Danowski sets new Division I record with 376th win

(03/14/17 7:22am)

When John Danowski was hired to come to Duke, he inherited a program reeling after three of its players had been falsely accused of rape, the head coach who led the team to the 2005 national title game had been fired and the end of the Blue Devils' 2006 season had been cancelled.

Beyond the arc: Duke men's basketball vs. Notre Dame

(03/12/17 9:12am)

The fifth-seeded Blue Devils rallied from an eight-point deficit to defeat the third-seeded Fighting Irish 75-69 at the Barclays Center in New York Saturday and win their first ACC championship since 2011. A clutch performance from Jayson Tatum and late 3-pointer by Matt Jones lifted Duke to another come-from-behind victory and its fourth win in four days.
