NAACP boycott may keep some students from Myrtle

If the early response from many Duke students is any indication, the power of the NAACP's tourism boycott in South Carolina will keep some Duke students away from Myrtle Beach this May. But although students who support the boycott are doing so with fervor, others insist the issue will not keep them away from Myrtle's surf and sand after finals week.



Outside groups use Jewish center?s vast programming space

Since opening its doors for the Jewish Baccalaureate ceremony in May, the Freeman Center for Jewish Life has been the hub of the Jewish community on campus. But with a variety of rooms and a dining facility, it has so far this semester hosted about a dozen events not organized by the center, and many more will take place throughout the rest of the year.

With crunching guitars and Thom Yorke-esque vocals, Muse could be enough to satisfy the suffering Radiohead fan who is tired of OK Computer but can't wait until May 2000 for another dose of depressing prog-rock. Muse is more that that, though--on their debut album, Showbiz, they display the potential to be a whole lot more than Radiohead clones.


Conference addresses national rise in academic dishonesty

Facing mounting research proving that cheating at college is on the rise, university administrators nationwide are focusing more attention on issues of academic integrity. This weekend, Duke hosted the ninth annual conference of the Center for Academic Integrity, a Duke-based consortium of 200 colleges and universities that includes Stanford and Princeton universities and the University of North Carolina, among others.
