Seven Blue Devils qualified to travel to Greensboro, N.C., for the NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships this past Wednesday through Saturday, competing in 11 events over the course of the four days.

Duke is coming off of a two-game win streak, against N.C. State and most recently Wake Forest. Although sophomore Matthew Hurt has had an impressive improvement in his game, freshman Mark Williams is also a player that has recently gotten into his groove. The duo have been able to play off of one another, improving each other’s game. Williams helps Hurt defend the rim as well as the big guys while also keeping him out of foul trouble. Williams proved that he’s an asset in the game against N.C. State and now that he’s found his complement on the floor, I believe he will be more important in the remaining games of the season.

Returning every starter from a top-10 squad while adding the top recruit in the country and the top player in the country sounds like a pretty good recipe for “superteam.” And that’s not even counting the return of the team’s top scorer from 2019, who missed all of the shortened 2020 campaign with a torn ACL, as well as two other preseason All-American transfers.

With the suspension and later cancellation of all Duke athletic competition due to the spread of coronavirus, many Blue Devil seasons were abruptly cut short. The Chronicle is going to take a look back at those seasons affected as well as what we missed out on with their cancellations. We've already looked at men's basketball, women's basketball, baseball, men's lacrosse, women's lacrosse, men's tennis, women's golf, men's golf and women's tennis. Next up: rowing.
