Duke Student Affairs sees 200 staff departures in two years, student groups impacted by staffing shortages and turnovers

Around 200 people have left Duke’s Office of Student Affairs since 2020 — a turnover rate that has left students feeling the impacts of staffing shortages, losses of institutional knowledge and uncertainty about next steps.

Happy 20-days-until-Halloween! We’re seven weeks into the semester, and while the Sunday scaries might be year-round, some things only happen in September. Duke formally announced its Climate Commitment while a tropical storm bore down on campus. Our football team snagged a three-win streak before falling to Kansas. Durham Pride made a comeback on East Campus and Fandango de Durham made its debut.








For a better Duke

As I rewrite this column for the third time, I find myself questioning where things will end. Not just this article or my year as managing editor, but my time at Duke. In a way, The Chronicle and Duke are almost inseparable for me; I went to one info session during O-Week and never looked back. Six semesters later, it feels like I’m riding a conveyor belt to the finish line and there’s been no time to stop and process anything that’s happened thus far.
