Q&A: ESPN's Jay Bilas criticizes Duke football's restrictions on former quarterback Thomas Sirk's transfer

Last week, ESPN college basketball analyst and former Blue Devil Jay Bilas criticized Pittsburgh on Twitter for restricting guard Cameron Johnson from transferring to another ACC school. Bilas extended his criticisms to Duke’s treatment of former quarterback Thomas Sirk, who was not allowed to transfer to any team on Duke’s schedule next year and eventually settled on East Carolina.

Since trailing 6-1 at then-No. 16 North Carolina three weeks ago, Duke has been as hot offensively as any team in the country. But Saturday in Milwaukee, the Blue Devils faced a second-half deficit, trailing 6-5 against an unranked Marquette side that entered the weekend without a victory against a team currently in the top 20.

Recently, Duke has seen its fair share of siblings play together. The three Plumlee brothers excelled on Coach K Court, Deondre and Dylan Singleton patrolled the secondary at Wallace Wade Stadium last fall, Robin and Lauren Blazing helped the Blue Devils’ field hockey team to a 2015 Final Four appearance and Leona and Lisa Maguire have kept women’s golf among the nation’s best programs.
