Duke administrative staff declined to accept demand letter from graduate students union, per organizer

Following the Duke Graduate Students Union’s Thursday rally, students attempted to deliver a letter to President Vincent Price asking Duke to voluntarily recognize the union and were told by administrative staff they could not accept it, according to an organizer.  



Non-Greek selective living groups can hold open house as non-recruitment event

After Tuesday’s announcement that non-Greek selective living groups could no longer host recruitment events this year, SLGs will still be allowed to hold their open house slated for Sunday as a non-recruitment event, according to a Friday email sent to SLG leaders obtained by The Chronicle.

Duke volleyball sophomore Rachel Richardson reported that she was the target of a racist incident in an Aug. 26 match against Brigham Young University in which a non-student BYU fan sitting in the student section directed racial slurs at her. The fan had been banned from all BYU sporting events before BYU lifted the ban Sept. 9.

Duke volleyball sophomore Rachel Richardson released a statement Sunday afternoon via Twitter detailing her experience in Duke's Friday match against BYU. Richardson was the target of a racist incident in Friday's match at Smith Fieldhouse in Provo, Utah, in which a non-student fan seated in BYU's student section repeatedly directed racial slurs at her. BYU announced Saturday that the fan had been banned from future sporting events.

The U.S. Department of Justice filed a statement of interest on Thursday in a lawsuit accusing 17 elite universities, including Duke, of illegally colluding to limit financial aid.
