Former ‘Onion’ editor: ‘People don’t think very much’

Scott Dikkers has made a career out of being funny as the founding editor of the satirical publication "The Onion." He has served as the owner and founding editor of the publication and co-wrote the best-selling books "Our Dumb Century" and "Our Dumb World." Dikkers will give a talk entitled "The Funny Story Behind the Funny Stories" today at 4:30 p.m. in Page Auditorium. The Chronicle's Lucy Zhang recently spoke with Dikkers about his humor, his origins in satirical news and the success of "The Onion."




The rise and fall of anime, at Duke and beyond

Nearly every type of student activity from basketball to tea with strangers has established on Duke's campus. That is, everything except the Duke Anime Club, an entity that has long disappeared from the student body's memories. All that exists in testimony to the anime club's existence is an abandoned website address that links to a page "Err Connection Timed Out." Despite the disappearance of the Duke Anime Club, anime fans themselves have a strong representation among the student body.

We would like to thank the author of the anonymous April 3 guest commentary, "Is it too much to dream?" for sharing his experiences as an undocumented person living in the United States. It is too often that the experiences and stories of undocumented people remain invisible and unknown to Duke students.
