Line monitors implement strict 'No Meanies Allowed' rule in K-Ville

(02/05/24 5:00am)

The annual hoard of Duke students has erected dozens of tents in front of Wilson on their journey from the comfort of their dorm rooms to the brutal, not quite freezing (grace below 32 degrees) conditions of the great North Carolina wilderness of Krzyzewskiville. The tradition of rejecting heat and sleep for a tightly-squeezed, uncomfortable viewing experience of the Duke-UNC basketball game dates back over 30 years. This year, however, major changes from line monitors means tenting might look a little different.

Stop being late

(02/05/24 5:00am)

The year is 2020. You’re sitting in your bedroom in a presentable top and pajama pants, gathering the mental fortitude to click on a Zoom link to join class, a club meeting or maybe a random webinar. You wait until the clock hits the exact start time and click to connect. Upon entering the meeting, the host announces, “Let’s just wait a couple more minutes for everyone else to log on.” Great, what a waste of time!

Lessons in love and letting go: The college 'situationship'

(02/05/24 5:00am)

Humans have a distinct tendency to learn most effectively through their own experiences. It’s an inherent characteristic — we are stubborn beings, often resistant to advice and guidance no matter how wise or well-intentioned it might be. This trait seems almost universal, and it’s one I’ve observed not only in those around me but also within myself. We often need to feel the heat of the fire firsthand before we truly understand why we were warned against it.

And one: Ingram's incredible night, haphazard play define Duke men's basketball's loss at North Carolina

(02/04/24 9:26pm)

After each Duke basketball game this season, check back here for the Player of the Game and more. In the year’s first installation of the Tobacco Road rivalry, the Blue Devils were stifled by the Tar Heels in a 84-93 defeat, and the Blue Zone is here to analyze the contest:

No. 17 Duke women's tennis rebounds from loss to Ohio State with shutout win against UCLA in weekend series

(02/04/24 6:56pm)

Shavit Kimchi fell down 3-0 early in the first set of her single’s match Saturday against No. 13 UCLA’s Kimmi Hance before turning in one of the more impressive performances the 17th-ranked Blue Devils have seen all season. The Sdey Hemed, Israel, native battled back to win the match 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 and seal a 4-0 sweep for Duke against the Bruins at the Ty Tucker Tennis Center in Columbus, Ohio.

‘They were hungrier’: North Carolina shows No. 7 Duke men’s basketball where it can — and must — progress

(02/04/24 3:32pm)

CHAPEL HILL—North Carolina’s largest lead Saturday came fairly early in the second half. An offensive rebound rattled away from the rim and into the waiting arms of junior forward Harrison Ingram, who coolly connected from the midrange to put the Tar Heels up 63-48 with a full 13:16 left to play. The Blue Devils spent the rest of the evening playing catch-up, doing just enough to stay within striking distance but never enough to truly make it a game again.
