As a Miami football fan since childhood, Duke graduate and sports editor of The Chronicle during Coach Cut's second season in Durham, I have a unique perspective on every game involving the 'Canes and Blue Devils. I would urge everyone furious with Saturday's result to do one thing: realize that before Duke got cheated, Miami did as well.

In response to The Chronicle's story on some Duke students objecting to reading Fun Home for religious reasons, I would recommend that those students take themselves and their summer reading assignment a little less seriously. Summer reading is intended to create something in common for all incoming freshmen to talk about and possibly to teach students about something they wouldn't otherwise come across. But at its core, it is a voluntary assignment with no requirements or grades attached. If students want to skip the book, they can.

Chalk up the first recruit to commit to the Blue Devils since Duke captured its fourth national championship back on April 5.

Following the thrilling end to the Duke-Butler game, Andy Moore, Ian Soileau and I—The Chronicle's representatives in Indianapolis for the Final Four—made a hellish trip to Chicago's O'Hare airport for a flight back to Durham. I bet Pat Forde and Andy Katz got to sleep in giant beds at the Marriot in downtown Indy.

INDIANAPOLIS — Tenting in Krzyzewskiville ended nearly a month ago, but don't tell that to the 660 Duke students who won the Final Four ticket lottery.

INDIANAPOLIS — After Butler took down Michigan State in the Final Four Saturday evening, forward Gordon Hayward and guard Ronald Nored met with the media in the bowels of Lucas Oil Stadium. One reporter asked Nored about a quirky moment before the game, as the starting lineups were being introduced, when forward Matt Howard had run off the bench, saluted his teammates, and finally, patted the Butler mascot, a real-live dog named "Old Blue", on the head.

Duke 69, West Virginia 55, 3:55 to go in the second half: The neutrals are filing out of the stadium now, and for good reason: This game has lost a lot of its energy in the last four minutes as the Blue Devils have squeezed the life out of West Virginia. Duke fans, though, couldn't be happier.

INDIANAPOLIS — Right now, Lucas Oil Stadium is full. Like, overflowing. Even the folks sitting in the corners of the upper deck, hundreds of feet from the court, are crammed into their seats. At least the NCAA was gentlemanly enough to put a seat cushion on every chair.

INDIANAPOLIS — West Virginia point guard Darryl "Truck" Bryant will not play in this evening's Final Four game against Duke, the sophomore told ESPN.com.

Kentucky and Duke won't meet in this year's NCAA Tournament unless both make it to the Final Four, but the two do have quite a history--recently, it has involved recruits John Wall and Patrick Patterson, and before that, it involved a certain foul-line jumper at the Meadowlands.

Poor Hubert Davis on ESPN College GameDay today. The Carolina grad and former NBA player, now a part of the GameDay team with Rece Davis, Digger Phelps, Bobby Knight and Jay Bilas, took quite a verbal beating from his colleagues on the show (which was broadcast live from Cameron Indoor Stadium this morning).

I wrote a story for today's paper about the Duke baseball program's decision to move the vast majority of its home games off campus. In total, the Blue Devils will play seven games at Jack Coombs Field on West Campus, six at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, and the remaining 18 at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park in downtown Durham. In the article, I touch on all the positive reasons for the move to DBAP--the venue is beautiful and well-known by fans and recruits--and the negative reasons for the move, namely, the poor quality of the drainage system at Jack Coombs Field.

With College GameDay coming to Cameron Indoor Stadium this weekend, the folks at ESPN asked The Chronicle to give a little local color to explain why the Duke-UNC game matters so much, especially this season, since Duke and North Carolina are at opposite ends of the ACC standings. Here's what we came up with:

Senior forward Lance Thomas's right knee injury appears to be only a severe bone bruise, the Duke men's basketball program said in a statement minutes ago.

ESPN.com senior writer Pat Forde, who covers college football and basketball and writes a popular "Forde Minutes" column each week during both seasons, was kind enough to answer a series of questions about Duke's potential come March and a variety of other topics.

Notwithstanding massive snowstorms and their effects this week, this is the time of year that Cameron Crazies embark on a journey known nationwide as tenting. And this year, The Chronicle is here to tell the tenters' story in a more interactive way than ever before.

Washington, D.C. -- The Washington Wizards weren’t playing until Saturday night, and with Gilbert Arenas and Javaris Crittenton already suspended by the NBA, there’s a good chance there weren’t any guns at the Verizon Center this weekend. But Saturday afternoon, Georgetown shot the lights out against No. 8 Duke.
(01/30/10 10:55pm)
Georgetown 84, Duke 68, 2:10 left: Probably the most telling stat from this game is the field goal percentage disparity. Georgetown is still shooting over 70 percent from the floor, which is absurd, while Duke is stuck at a dismal 35 percent. Singler just fouled out, and the Hoyas just converted another and-one.

Duke fell short of qualifying for a bowl game this year, but that didn't stop the Blue Devils from pocketing a nice chunk of change from bowl season.
