In the space between the MTV Movie Awards in June and the Video awards in September, "summer" overtakes MTVland, leaving three months for viewers and VJs alike to kick back and relax. And what's a better place to set up summertime MTV-style than in Southern California. Umm, right dude?

For students and visitors alike, the Sarah P. Duke Gardens represent tranquility: a place to study, take a nap, toss a frisbee or even complete an unofficial graduation requirement (for the adventurous). On weekends, you can sometimes see a bride and groom posing for wedding pictures. But tonight, an entirely different celebration will be taking place amid the willow trees and carp pond-a rave in the Gardens.

As a full-blown addict of Ben Harper's 1995 album Fight for Your Mind, I was pumped to get my hands on his latest release, Burn to Shine. Harper is my favorite musician to listen to as 'background for life'-dynamic but not overbearing, passionate but relaxing. He's a talented, underrated and underplayed musician, a more soulful respite from the ubiquitous Dave Matthews or edgier Lenny Kravitz.
