With fall crisp in the air and on a day meant for bad luck and unfortunate circumstances (Friday the 13th), No. 2 Duke expelled all potential misfortune as it held its ground and defeated No. 5 Louisville Friday afternoon at Jack Katz Stadium.

On August 30, 92,003 people came to watch Nebraska’s women’s college volleyball match against Omaha, breaking the world record for the highest attendance at a women's sporting event ever. While Duke hasn’t reached those heights, it made a statement of its own this week.

The Blue Devils will have plenty to work with this season as they have an influx of talented returning and incoming players. From graduate students returning from injury to four incoming freshmen, the growing team has the Blue Devils “continuing to focus on team culture, which is in a good spot” and “working hard to get ready to get started,” according to head coach Jolene Nagel.

CHAPEL HILL—The Blue Devils knew it was going to be an uphill climb Friday as they faced off against No. 1 North Carolina inside Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. While that climb proved to be too steep and No. 3 Duke fell 4-1 to snap an 11-match winning streak, they showed promise to close the regular season with the possibility of a rematch in next week’s ACC tournament final.

Tired and sore, the Blue Devils continued to demonstrate their fortitude against hurricanes this weekend. Sheltered in Ambler Tennis Stadium and Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center to begin their last homestand of the season, No. 8 Duke was never fazed by the bumps in the road, pulling together to defeat No. 11 Miami 4-3 Friday and Florida State 6-1 Saturday in two key ACC matchups.
