The other night, I had a dream that the entire Duke men's basketball team went to McDonald's.
Last Friday, I wrote the following: "This Duke team is in trouble.... If I'm not eating these words on Sunday, it's going to be a long season."
Pack up your tents.
There's the pass to Laettner... puts it up...
It's only Year One, A.L. (After Lacrosse, duh), and it's already getting hard to remember what we thought about Duke in those ancient B.L. years.
Christmas came 23 days early for Duke fans this year.
Note: Before this season, current Indiana coach Kelvin Sampson was the head man at Oklahoma. From 2000-2004, members of Sampson's staff made 577 extra phone calls to recruits. Sampson himself made 233 of those calls. As a result, he was banned from making any phone calls to recruits or recruiting off campus for a period of two years. Luckily, he can still communicate with recruits by e-mail or text message. The following is an (entirely fictional and completely made up) account of a text message conversation between me and Kelvin Sampson (because, you know, he's so good at typing on a small keypad with just his thumbs now).
Thanksgiving's right around the corner, which means just one thing for you right now. I'm going to write a column about things in Duke sports that I'm thankful for, and you're going to read it (if only because you're sitting in the airport and your flight is delayed by six hours, and you really don't want to walk over to the book store to shell out $12 for the new Mitch Albom book, which you definitely would buy except you're totally broke and it's a good thing that you're going home so you can eat something heartier than Cup O' Noodles).
Duke did a lot of things right Thursday night against UNC Greensboro, especially on the defensive end.
When you call the Duke Football office, a lady picks up the phone and says "It's a great day at Duke Football. How can I help you?"
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - With just under 14 minutes left to play, Boston College had the ball on Duke's seven-yard line, leading 21-7. Quarterback Matt Ryan handed off to running back L.V. Whitworth, looked at the play unfolding in front of him and immediately threw his hands in the air in celebration.
All last year, Dave McClure felt worthless.
I was there in Atlanta when Duke lost to LSU last year in the Sweet 16.
Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to the most stupendous, most resplendent, most beautacious, most splendiferous, most spectabulous, most unbelievable, most exquisital, most majestic, fantastic and fantabulistical spectacle in the history of Duke University.
The morning after Red Auerbach died, I went to the library.
Brian Davis sees the world through rose-colored glasses-literally.
Spend a little bit of time at Duke-much shorter than four years, a smidge longer than a PFrosh-and you'll meet some interesting people.
On Sept. 4, 2001, The Chronicle ran a staff editorial declaring, "It is sad that a top-10 institution like Duke is even considering [Sean] Dockery."
On Saturday, Florida State gave Duke a swirlie-and Blue Devil head coach Ted Roof apparently didn't care.
