Blue Devils downed in round 2 in U.S. Amateur

For the two Duke golfers who advanced to the match play portion of the U.S. Women’s Amateur the format proved as unpredictable as ever, and both were eliminated from the tournament in the second round. At the Kahkwa Club in Erie, Penn., junior Liz Janangelo lost on the first playoff hole, while senior Niloufar Aazam-Zanganeh defaulted after 13 holes with a leg injury.



Quest for national chamionship begins at home

The last time the women's basketball team faced Northwestern State, in Alana Beard's Louisiana homecoming game Dec. 20, 2003, the Demons were completely overmatched in a 105-53 loss. The Blue Devils, who are the top seed in the Mideast region of the NCAA women's tournament, will face 16th seed Northwestern State (24-6) in a first round matchup Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Linebacker Ryan Fowler triumphantly held the ball in the air and pointed it toward the Duke end zone, displaying his prize for stripping Maryland running back Bruce Perry and falling on the fumble. The crowd of 50,084 fans in Byrd Stadium fell so silent you could almost hear the air rushing out of their Thundersticks. Though the Blue Devils (2-4, 0-3 in the ACC) trailed 20-0, the momentum seemed to have swung and Duke appeared ready to capitalize.


Grant leads Duke past Spartans

With a dominating 2-0 victory over No. 7 Michigan State (5-3), the No. 4 field hockey team (6-1) defeated its second top-10 opponent in two days, and is well on its way to realizing its goal of reaching the nation's upper echelon. After controlling the Spartans for the first half, but failing to capitalize on numerous scoring opportunities, the Blue Devils took the lead 43 seconds into the second half. Katie Grant dribbled down the right side on a partial fast break and knocked the ball past the goalie into the right side of the net.
