(03/30/24 2:46pm)

The Blue Devils are on to the Elite Eight, and March Madness brings everything to the big stage, including some of the quirky, punny and sometimes surprising NIL deals that athletes have. Here, the Blue Zone will be ranking some of the worst, best and punniest NIL deals.

Pink tarps, spray paint and pinatas: A walk through K-Ville during the 2024 Duke men's basketball tenting season

(03/06/24 5:37am)

Between the months of January and March every year, two patches of grass in Duke’s athletic quarter fill up with tents occupied by undergraduate students camping out for tickets to the men’s basketball game against hated rival North Carolina at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

How would you do on this year's Duke men's basketball tenting ordering test?

(02/25/24 8:28pm)

The residents of “Mitchell-in Star Restaurant,” who are all seniors, have been tenting for three years. Blake Morris, who met his fellow tenters through Duke Wesleyan, ran through miscellaneous knowledge as he waited for the doors to this year’s ordering test to open at the K Center behind Cameron Indoor Stadium. A fun fact off the top of his head?

CS Majors launch 'ambiguous and labelless relationship' pact

(02/19/24 5:00am)

It’s the week after Valentine’s Day, and perhaps you — like thousands of other students at Duke — are still single and contemplating if you’ll ever be loved. You are not alone: Marriages are in decline. Birth rates are down. Depression and isolation are at record levels in the United States. In 2023, the US “epidemic of loneliness” was declared a public health crisis. All around, people are more disconnected. But never fear — as always, a group of Duke CS majors has developed a solution.

Elko Urbanism: The end of an era?

(02/09/24 6:29am)

And in a blink of an eye, it was all over. After a season full of so much hope, everything fell apart with remarkable speed. Less than 24 hours after a triumphant victory over Pitt, Blue Devils football coach Mike Elko stepped on a private jet headed for College Station, Texas, to sign a contract as the new Texas A&M head coach. Soon after, a cascade of Blue Devils hit the transfer portal, making it clear that the Elko Era was officially over. Those happy memories of storming the field after knocking off Clemson, getting hyped for College Gameday and savoring back-to-back bowl victories are now all things of the past.

Line monitors implement strict 'No Meanies Allowed' rule in K-Ville

(02/05/24 5:00am)

The annual hoard of Duke students has erected dozens of tents in front of Wilson on their journey from the comfort of their dorm rooms to the brutal, not quite freezing (grace below 32 degrees) conditions of the great North Carolina wilderness of Krzyzewskiville. The tradition of rejecting heat and sleep for a tightly-squeezed, uncomfortable viewing experience of the Duke-UNC basketball game dates back over 30 years. This year, however, major changes from line monitors means tenting might look a little different.

The convenience of more

(12/08/23 5:00am)

The last lap in Mario Kart when the music speeds up. That critical stretch of a football game after the two-minute warning. The last 0.2 miles of a 26.2-mile marathon. All three make an apt comparison to the hectic pace of the final few weeks of the semester between Thanksgiving and Winter Break. With finals, projects, shopping and holiday social gatherings all crammed into a few short weeks, the sentiments of joy and gratitude which are supposed to define this season get pushed to the wayside.

‘A special experience’: Graduate students look back on tenting for Duke men’s basketball season tickets

(10/30/23 2:13am)

Every year, hundreds of undergraduates stay in tents outside Krzyzewskiville in hopes of seeing the Duke men’s basketball team face off against North Carolina in Cameron Indoor Stadium. Graduate students have a different process.
