Why didn’t Duke participate in the Association of American University’s sexual assault survey?

If you’ve ever had a conversation about sexual assault at Duke, you might have heard of the Duke University Student Experiences Survey, which assesses campus climate surrounding sexual misconduct and sexual assault. But there’s a separate survey, standardized across universities, that Duke currently does not participate in.

The Chronicle has been provided with the candidates for Duke Student Government's vice president and senator positions, as well as class council, by Attorney General John Markis, who is also a staff reporter for The Chronicle. Each class gets to elect two senators for each committee, and only one person can hold each class council position.

Editor's note about the debate: Each candidate had 90 seconds to introduce themselves and give an opening statement. Then, we asked three candidate-specific questions for each candidate, with one minute to respond to each. Any candidate that is mentioned in another candidate’s answer had 30 seconds to respond. Two of those responses for each candidate were included in their debate stories. Each candidate had two scenario questions with 90 seconds to respond to each. We reserved the right to follow up on candidate’s responses. Candidates had 30 seconds to respond to the follow up question. One of the scenario questions was included in their debate stories.

Justin Fairfax, Trinity ‘00 and lieutenant governor of Virginia, now faces a second allegation of sexual assault. This one allegedly occurred during his time at Duke.
