Letter: On the bathroom stall swastika

(10/12/18 4:00am)

A cowardly engraving of a swastika was found on the door of a bathroom stall in the Language building on Duke’s West Campus. Although this might seem inconsequential, this anti-Semitic drawing is in line with a global wave of anti-Semitism that has found its way on to many college campuses. In 2016, there were over 100 reported incidents of swastikas appearing on college campuses across the U.S.

Letter to the Editor: Shorter Flagpoles

(02/28/18 5:00am)

Every day, I walk past the flag pole near Wilson Gym, and see the flag at half-mast. Now, it is mourning the victims of the Florida High School shooting, but since I’ve been at Duke, it has been lowered for too many different tragedies. Seeing half-mast flags has become more and more common over the last couple of years. School shootings, mass murders, etc... This has unfortunately become the norm. It is becoming more surprising to see our flag flying high then not. Guns are bringing our flags to half-mast so often yet nothing is being done, so why not just make shorter flag poles?
