With ‘Future Nostalgia,’ Dua Lipa proves she’s here to stay

In a budding spring without nightclubs, windows-down car rides with friends and almost every other moment that begs for new pop music, it might feel weird to revel in “Future Nostalgia,” the electronic, disco, dance-pop album that Dua Lipa released last Friday. But Lipa’s album gives me a vivid mental image of what our post-quarantine nights will be like — and I hope you join me in that “nostalgia” for the future.

Kim Petras perfects spooky pop with ‘Turn Off the Light’

The year is 2018, the month is October and Halloween is quickly approaching. This usually entails the absolutely incessant playing of Bobby Pickett’s “Monster Mash.” Rising popstar Kim Petras, however, delivered something different last October: an EP dedicated entirely to original spooky pop, titled “Turn Off the Light, Vol. 1.” The inclusion of “Vol. 1” hinted at an inevitable sequel.

Durham Pride is an unabashed celebration of identity and visibility

Last Saturday, not even 90-degree weather could prevent crowds from celebrating Pride on Duke’s East Campus. Duke students, Durham residents and people from across the state showed up adorned in glitter and extravagant outfits, blasting pop music down Main Street and bopping along to drag performances throughout the afternoon.
