Krzyzewski talks big picture in Indianapolis

(03/31/13 1:08am)

With hordes of national media and a day off from competition here in Indianapolis, Duke basketball head coach Mike Krzyzewski took a few opportunities to offer his thoughts on some of the larger issues in college basketball as the sport takes center stage in the national sports arena in late March. Here are a couple highlights that he riffed on at Duke's Saturday afternoon press conference.

Duke basketball vs. Florida State live updates

(02/03/13 12:05am)

Duke 79, Florida State 60 (final): And Duke has completed its rout of Florida State here in Tallahassee, with the final margin falling inside 20 points despite Florida State never having competed at anywhere near Duke's level today. The Seminoles managed to clamber back to a 41.8 percent shooting performance after making just 28.6 percent in the first half, but few teams could have answered Duke's 60.8 percent showing, especially when 11 of Duke's 18 3-point attempts went down.

ACC will vote Wednesday on Louisville's admission

(11/28/12 12:48pm)

It has been scarcely 12 hours since The Chronicle broke the news about the ACC's lawsuit to ensure it collects a full buyout from departing member Maryland, and it appears that conference officials are already prepared to name Maryland's replacement. Multiple sources have told David Glenn of the ACC Sports Journal that conference presidents and chancellors will gather on a 7 a.m. conference call Wednesday morning to cast votes on several potential expansion candidates.

Duke basketball vs. Louisville updates

(11/25/12 7:42am)

Duke 76, Louisville 71 (final): Peyton Siva got to the rim and converted to bring Louisville back within three points, but it was too late for the Cardinals, who were forced into foul-and-hope mode. Quinn Cook just continued to come up with huge plays, converting 4-of-4 free throws in the final 15 seconds to maintain a two-possession lead for Duke and seal the tournament championship for the Blue Devils.

Duke basketball vs. VCU updates

(11/24/12 5:07am)

Duke 67, VCU 58 (final): The Blue Devils simply could not convert anything from the field down the stretch, but they took advantage of strong free-throw shooting and a horrific late-game VCU performance from the floor to hold their lead and bring home a hard-fought win to advance to the Battle 4 Atlantis championship game. Duke drained 11-of-12 free throws after a Quinn Cook layup at the 8:18 mark, with the only field goal after that coming on a Mason Plumlee dunk with 12 seconds on the clock.

Duke basketball vs. Minnesota updates

(11/23/12 1:35am)

Duke 89, Minnesota 71 (final): Having built a 15-point lead at the 3:09 mark, Duke slowed its offense down considerably but struggled at times to break an athletic full-court press from the Golden Gophers late in the game. As the clock ticked under 1:30, though, Minnesota backed off its pressure and Duke ran off the remainder of the clock. Seth Curry finished with a remarkable 8-for-11 performance from the floor, including 3-for-3 from beyond the arc. With his 6-for-7 showing at the line, he tallied 25 points as all five Duke scorers finished in double digits and four of the five shot better than 50 percent from the field. Duke weathers athletic, physical play from the Golden Gophers en route to a 17-point victory.

Beyond the arc: Duke basketball vs. Minnesota

(11/23/12 4:44am)

Most visitors think of the Bahamas as a relaxing destination, but Duke's first contest at Atlantis Paradise Island was far from a laid-back affair. Especially in the first half, Duke met a physical and athletic Minnesota squad in a fast-paced, hectic first-round game at the Battle 4 Atlantis. Though the Golden Gophers registered a number of highlight-reel plays attacking the rim and the boards, the Blue Devils answered almost every momentum play with a key basket of its own en route to an 89-71 win.

The key three: Duke basketball vs. Florida Gulf Coast

(11/19/12 3:29am)

Beginning on Thanksgiving Day, Duke will face one of the toughest week-long stretches of its season, but tonight the No. 9 Blue Devils take their 2-0 record back to Cameron Indoor Stadium for what should prove to be a tune-up contest against Florida Gulf Coast. The visitors from Fort Myers, Fla., who just joined Division I basketball three years ago, bring a youthful squad that projects to finish near the top of the Atlantic Sun but should not pose too much of a challenge for Duke.

Duke basketball vs. Georgia State updates

(11/10/12 5:05am)

Duke 74, Georgia State 55 (end of game): Krzyzewski did not take his foot off the gas despite the comfortable Duke lead, clearly upset with the defensive effort on a lay-up by Devonta White that resulted in a three-point play. The Blue Devils looked just fine on offense as they closed out the victory, though, draining an open three from Thornton and setting up an easy Plumlee dunk in the final minutes before Duke took the air out of the ball for a 19-point win. A solid statement for the Blue Devils in their opener, with Kentucky looming on the horizon Tuesday in Atlanta. Thanks for reading, and as always keep refreshing The Blue Zone and @dukebasketball on Twitter for the latest on Blue Devil hoops.

Notes from Mike Krzyzewski's post-game press conference

(03/11/12 7:00am)

Duke lost 62-59 to Florida State at Philips Arena, but the season continues for head coach Mike Krzyzewski and his team. Several key questions remain for the Blue Devils heading into tomorrow's NCAA tournament selection show, and the tournament itself, which begins Thursday. Here are some tidbits on the coming week from Krzyzewski following Duke's Saturday defeat:

Virginia Tech ekes by Clemson, will take on Duke in quarterfinals

(03/09/12 12:10pm)

ATLANTA – The first two matchups between Clemson and Virginia Tech were each decided by two points. So it should come as no surprise that the third game between the teams turned into a close slugfest as well. With the right to play Duke on the line, two late 3-pointers from Dorenzo Hudson and Erick Green helped the Hokies pull away to a 68-63 victory at Philips Arena.

Nike unveils new look for Blue Devils

(01/26/12 4:06am)

The Duke men's basketball team has three uniform colors—the home white, the away blue and the alternate black jerseys. But the Blue Devils' repertoire grew to four Wednesday when Nike unveiled a new line of gray jerseys specially designed for nine NCAA basketball programs that have won national championships wearing Nike apparel. The line is called Nike Hyper Elite Platinum, and Nike claims the uniforms are five percent lighter than the regular Hyper Elite jerseys that debuted during the 2010 season.
