At about 5 a.m. Monday morning, Chapel Hill's Department of Public Safety announced that they were unable to verify the bomb threat to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's Pit area, The Daily Tar Heel reported. All buildings in and surrounding the Pit were searched.

Update: As of 5 a.m., UNC police decided that the bomb threat called in around 9 p.m. Sunday was not valid and issued an all-clear, according to the AlertCarolina Web site.

A high school student alleged sexual assault Monday morning, reporting inappropriate touching from someone they knew. The incident allegedly occurred while visiting the Sarah P. Duke Gardens, Duke University Police Department Maj. Gloria Graham confirmed. Neither the high school student nor the acquaintance are Duke-affiliated, Graham said. As of Thursday night, a full police report has not been released.

Retired Marine Gen. Anthony Zinni, a former distinguished lecturer in residence at the Sanford Institute, has been part of a tossing game with the Obama administration, The Washington Times reported today. National Security Advisor James Jones had offered Zinni the role of ambassador to Iraq, which Zinni accepted two weeks ago and even received a congratulatory call from President Obama, according to Foreign Policy's "The Cable."

Chai's Noodle Bar & Bistro and Green Tango are waiting for equipment to be installed (like DukeCard readers) and are slated to be on food points soon, according to e-mails to the Duke University Dining Committee. Chai's is expecting their equipment to be in by Monday/Tuesday, to become an official Merchants on Points vendor sometime this week.

Aubrey McClendon, multi-billionaire chief executive of Chesapeake Energy and a prominent Duke donor, may be auctioning off 9,000 bottles of wine to curb his recent losses. According to The Wall Street Journal's Wealth Report, people familiar with the auction say McClendon will in fact be the anonymous seller at the Sotheby-hosted event. The auction is called "Classic Cellar from a Great American Collector" and will be hosted this March and April:

The study abroad program Duke in Israel has been cancelled for the summer because of a number of factors, according to program directors and the Office of Study Abroad. In an e-mail yesterday to students who had shown interest in the program, the Office of Study Abroad cites security as the sole reason for the cancellation, writing:

The Chronicle of Higher Education had an interesting Q&A with Michael Siegel, professor of law at the University of Florida, who edited a recent compilation of essays with varied perspectives on the Duke lacrosse case, called Race to Injustice: Lessons Learned From the Duke Lacrosse Rape Case. Siegel notes that each contributer to the compilation agrees that the case was a "tragedy of immense proportions" and that the lacrosse players are innocent.

Mike Munger, chair of the political science department, who ran for governor as a Libertarian candidate, was featured in a Dukenews video posted today in which he dives into the ocean. Wait, allow me to repeat that: Munger, dressed in a tweed suit and tie, takes a head-on dive into the salty waters of the North Carolina coast. Why? Two reasons: to celebrate the end of a long campaign and, as a last resort, to draw media attention. He decries local news stations WRAL and WDTV for not inviting him to participate in gubernatorial debates.
