Battling the Tigers Saturday afternoon, it was the Blue Devils who earned their stripes.
As Duke jogged off the court at the halfway point of its Wednesday night matchup against Pittsburgh, fans watching at home could not be blamed for wanting to change the channel. The Blue Devils were struggling to take care of the basketball. The offense looked rushed and disjointed. The team was down by double digits and seemed to be heading for its fifth loss of the season courtesy of former Duke star Jeff Capel.
Matched up against a much-improved Pittsburgh team in its return to Cameron Indoor Stadium, No. 24 Duke struggled to keep pace in the first half but only let the visiting Panthers pull away in the final minutes. The Blue Devils are hanging in there and trail 43-32 with 20 minutes left on the clock.

Duke began its NCAA tournament run with a dominant 4-1 defeat of Memphis before falling to No. 6-seed Tennessee in the second round. Ahead of Saturday's loss, the Blue Devils performed well from the get-go Friday against the Tigers, winning the doubles point with a 6-4 victory from junior Andrew Zhang and graduate student Sean Sculley followed by a 6-3 win from the junior duo of Garrett Johns and Michael Heller.
