Six individual students, 4 campus organizations suspended due to COVID-19 policy violations

Four campus organizations have been placed on suspension since Aug. 7, and six individual students have received “interim suspensions for “flagrant violations of COVID policy expectations and the Duke Compact pending an administrative hearing, including for hosting gatherings and failing to follow quarantine and isolation protocols to protect fellow students,” Mary Pat McMahon, vice provost and vice president for student affairs, and Gary Bennett, vice provost for undergraduate education, wrote in a Friday email to undergraduates. 





DHS and ICE rescind new visa rules for international students taking online classes

Faced with considerable resistance from colleges and universities across the nation, including Duke, the Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement have agreed to reverse a policy that international students studying under F-1 educational visas cannot return to or remain in the United States if they take only online classes.





‘Don’t deny your potential:’ Ken Jeong on basketball, comedy and his advice for seniors

Ken Jeong, Trinity ‘90, is an actor and comedian best known for roles in the TV show “Community” and “The Hangover” film series. He was announced in March as this year’s commencement speaker. The ceremony has since been postponed, but Jeong will be participating in the virtual Marking the Moment ceremony.
