‘The worst-kept secret in the history of Duke’: Blue Devil mascots reveal identities, reflect on time at Duke

(05/24/22 1:13am)

It’s a familiar game day scene: Duke and The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill men’s basketball teams are facing off inside Cameron Indoor Stadium for the season culmination of a decades-old rivalry. The roar of the Cameron crowd is near-deafening, only encouraged by the antics of the Blue Devil mascot. (05/20/22 3:38am)

Duke teed off Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday for the three-round NCAA Columbus Regional and finished with a final score of 867 (+15), putting the Blue Devils in eighth place. This result for head coach Jamie Green's squad, unfortunately for Duke, doesn't grant the team a visit to Scottsdale, Ariz., for the NCAA Championship, as the Blue Devils would have needed to finish in the top five to advance. This means that Duke’s spring season has officially come to an end after it battled the difficult Scarlet Course at Ohio State.

(05/20/22 1:24am)

I first met Keith Upchurch, Trinity ’72, and Nugget, his beloved golden retriever, during my first semester at Duke. I would join them on the steps of Marketplace, watching as grinning students stroked Nugget’s fur or fed her slices of apples.

(05/20/22 2:27am)

“We hold that [Roe v. Wade] and [Planned Parenthood v. Casey] must be overruled,” wrote Justice Samuel Alito in an initial majority draft opinion on Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. The 98-page document, obtained by Politico, was leaked to the public on May 2 and has since reignited the debate around abortion rights in the United States.
