Riley Mangan works at the Human Vaccine Institute on mother-to-child transmissions of HIV. Modestly dressed in a plain sweater and jeans, he speaks with a smart, youthful earnestness; the phrase “boyish charm” was invented for guys like him. But he can’t talk for long. It is Wednesday at the Mary Lou Williams Center for Black Culture, and tonight he’s the new guy on piano.

Americans, do yourselves a favor and watch “Citizenfour.” If you have never seen it, do so now; if you have already seen it, do so again. After that, show it to every person you know. And if by chance some reticent grandparent absolutely refuses to see “those fancy art-house talkies,” bring them to Oliver Stone’s “Snowden,” now playing in theaters nationwide. It is a dumbed-down version but it will have to do.


Media-ville makes welcome return at Fall Career Fair

Media-ville, a showcase of industry leaders in media and entertainment, returns to Fall Career Fair Sept. 14. Representatives from seven companies—BuzzFeed, HBO, Tory Burch, United Talent Agency, Tandem Sports & Entertainment, VICE and Steve Carell’s Carousel Productions—will be conducting informal interviews with students over Skype. Most are recruiting at Duke for the first time.
