An Open Letter to Duke University Administration Regarding Student Affairs Space in the Bryan Center
The executive board of Diya recently had the opportunity to hear from the two candidates running for President of Duke Student Government. Valeria and Tommy both raised some very important issues and highlighted key areas requiring change on Duke’s campus. After listening to their visions and conversing with both of them, we have chosen to endorse Tommy Hessel for the position of DSG President.
After meeting with all of the candidates running for DSG president and Executive Vice President, Duke Diya is proud to endorse Alec Lintz for EVP and Sabriyya Pate for DSG President!
Members of Duke Diya, the South Asian Students Association, had the opportunity to talk with the four Young Trustee candidates recently, and we are excited to formally endorse Uzoma Ayogu. All four candidates are highly qualified for the position and show a true commitment to making Duke a better place.
After a careful deliberation of each candidate and what each stood for, Duke Diya’s executive board has chosen to endorse Keizra Mecklai for DSG President, John Guarco for DSG EVP and Nikhil Gavai for SOFC Chair.
Dear Duke Community,
Duke Diya had the pleasure of hearing from this year's three highly qualified Young Trustee finalists. We were impressed with the immense levels of commitment, passion and service to Duke each candidate embodied, as well as the unique perspectives of their Duke experiences they shared. After careful consideration, Duke Diya is happy to announce its support for Jacob Tobia as this year’s Young Trustee.
This year’s fine crop of candidates for Young Trustee made endorsing only one difficult. Each had more than his or her share of experience, leadership skills and knowledge of the University. But after interviewing all three nominated candidates, as well as Brooke Kingsland, a write-in candidate, Duke Diya is proud to announce its support of Michelle Sohn as this year’s Young Trustee.
Duke Diya formally endorses Mike Lefevre for DSG president. We were impressed with Lefevre’s record as former vice president for athletics and campus services as well as current chief of staff. We feel that Lefevre has a consistent record of accomplishment at all levels in his career with student government. His abilities to make changes will certainly aid him as DSG president. We believe that Lefevre will be an effective advocate for students of all backgrounds, and we believe he will help cultural groups reach new heights at Duke.
Choosing between the three candidates for Young Trustee was difficult. We were quite torn: Each candidate has a unique Duke experience that could easily translate into a successful term as Young Trustee. We would like to congratulate the Young Trustee Nominating Committee—the three candidates this year would be strong candidates in any year.
