Duke continued their spiral out of bowl contention, dropping their fifth straight game this time to No. 13 Virginia Tech. After losing to a 2-5 Pittsburgh Panthers team with no Power Five wins and a backup quarterback last week, the Blue Devils had low expectations against the Hokies. Although Duke’s defense held their own against Virginia Tech, limiting Hokies' quarterback Josh Jackson to 200 yards and a sub-50% completion percentage. The Duke offense, however, remained stagnant, and only could muster a 31-yard field goal in the second quarter. 


Duke swimming and diving set to on Olympic gold medalist Held and N.C. State

One year ago, N.C. State swimmer Ryan Held won an NCAA Relay Title with his 400-free relay team. At the 2016 Rio Olympics, Held swam with Michael Phelps and won a gold medal in the free relay for the U.S. Friday, Held will take on Yusuke Legard, Miles Williams, Sean Tate and Max St. George on Duke’s free relay team, which is coming off a strong first meet. 



Duke softball takes the field for first exhibition ever in front of more than 1,000 fans

The crowd of more than 1,300 people, packed into the 500-seat stadium and on a hill in right field, cheered on Duke President Vincent Price as he stepped in the pitcher’s circle. Price swung his arm back, lunged forward and hurled the yellow softball underhand to sophomore Raine Wilson for the first pitch in Duke softball history. 


Duke field hockey rolls past Louisville in home opener

On a penalty corner five minutes into the game, sophomore Margaux Paolino crossed the ball into the shooting circle, and Louisville goalie Ayeisha McFerran kicked away a Blue Devil shot from senior Alyssa Chillano. Junior Rose Tynan collected the bouncing ball, wound up and sniped the upper right-hand corner of the cage for her team-high fifth goal of the season.
