Baldwin Scholars endorse Ibrahim Butt for Young Trustee

The Baldwin Scholars had the opportunity to hear all four of the incredibly qualified, and well-spoken candidates for Young Trustee. We were genuinely impressed by each student’s dedication to both the Duke and Durham community and feel honored to call them our peers. After carefully considering the values, qualifications, missions and experiences of each candidate, we are pleased to endorse Ibrahim Butt (Ibby) for Young Trustee.

The Baldwin Scholars had the opportunity to hear from all four incredibly qualified Young Trustee candidates this past Sunday. After careful consideration of each candidate's platform, mission and campus experiences, the Baldwin Scholars are pleased to announce that we formally endorse Anya Ranganathan for Young Trustee.

Baldwin Scholars endorse Keizra Mecklai and John Guarco

The Baldwin Scholars express their enthusiastic support for John Guarco in his campaign for EVP. John’s experience with Duke Students Against Sexual Assault, Title IX administration, and Mental Health Awareness Month, among other involvement and activism, demonstrate his commitment to representing diverse experiences and identities and instituting tangible policies to improve life on campus. In this capacity, John is a candidate poised to truly represent his constituents both within the Senate and within the Board of Trustees.

Baldwin Scholars Young Trustee endorsement

After interacting with the three finalists and engaging in careful deliberation, the Baldwin Scholars have decided to endorse David Robertson for Young Trustee. David has exhibited a commitment to the various identities and experiences contained in the student body, as well as those in the local, Durham community. As the Director of the Common Ground retreat, David has worked to cultivate spaces for the discussion of gender, sexuality, race and socioeconomic status. As Vice President for Durham and Regional Affairs, David has worked to create more opportunities for interaction between the university and Durham through advocating for an expanded route of the Bull City Connector, as well as for student involvement in Durham’s crafting of its strategic plan. And, as a first-generation student and member of the 1G network, David understands the importance of making a Duke education more accessible to more people.

Baldwin Scholars endorse Katherine Zhang for Young Trustee

After meeting with the three finalists, the Baldwin Scholars have decided to endorse Katherine Zhang for Young Trustee. Katherine is remarkably qualified for the position: She has extensive experience discussing and debating significant University issues through her work with The Chronicle’s Editorial Board and has also demonstrated a breadth of interests through her academics and diverse array of extracurricular involvements. We were particularly impressed by Katherine’s thoughtfulness and her comprehensive knowledge of issues that are and will continue to be of critical importance to Duke. Her voice will be a credible and well-informed one on the Board, and we are confident that she will represent students well.
