JUUL to pay $40 million settlement to North Carolina for youth vaping case

JUUL will pay $40 million to settle a lawsuit brought by the state of North Carolina that claimed that the company’s products were causing young people to become addicted to nicotine. The settlement, which was announced Monday morning, makes North Carolina the first state in the country to successfully hold JUUL accountable for the issue of youth addiction. 


Durham budget for 2021-22 fiscal year includes $6 million for reparations through green infrastructure projects

The Durham City Council approved its budget for the 2021-22 fiscal year, which includes $6 million for reparations for slavery. This money will be used to fund green and equitable infrastructure in historically Black neighborhoods. 









Duke announces summer surveillance, entry testing protocols

Most students living or working on campus this summer will be required to undergo entry testing and all will be required to participate in surveillance testing, according to a Tuesday morning email from Executive Vice Provost Jennifer Francis and Vice President of Administration Kyle Cavanaugh. The email was sent to all Duke undergraduate, graduate and professional students who will be on campus in some capacity this summer.
