Track enters national spotlight at historic Penn Relays

It is the largest relay meet in the country with over 10,000 athletes competing from the high school and college levels and as unattached or sponsored runners. It is also the oldest, in existence for 103 years. And the Penn Relays, held this weekend in Philadelphia, will be a meet for the men's and women's track teams to show how they can compete with the best in the nation.

Although the sting of the men's basketball team's 91-85 loss to North Carolina is slowly beginning to fade, the rivalry between the two schools never will. To offer a consolation to those fans who find the loss particularly hard to deal with, I have compiled several reasons which will help restore each reader's faith in being a Blue Devil.





Men's track attains highest point total in 24 years at ACCs

GREENSBORO - The last time the men's track and field team scored over 30 points at the Atlantic Coast Conference indoor meet, Duke had track scholarships and a team with Olympic-caliber runners. As an indication of how long ago this was, most students weren't even born yet. In 1973, the Blue Devils scored 31 points at the ACC meet, and this year, the team nearly equalled that mark by totaling 30 points.
