Not sure what I'm doing here

I’m not sure who was more nervous for my 1,000-yard freestyle at club swim nationals last month, me or my mom. The 40 laps marked my final distance race of nearly 18 years of competitive swimming and my last chance to score points for my team before I graduated. My mom was my volunteer timer and very worried that she would mess something up, even though I tried to tell her that she was just getting a backup time in case I didn’t hit the touchpad hard enough. I wanted her to enjoy being on deck instead of up in the stands.

Although inclement weather made for a rough weekend in the field events, the men's and women's relay teams stepped up to give the Blue Devils their share of highlights at the team's final regular season meet.

A year after being disqualified in the evening heats of the 200-yard medley relay, the Blue Devils redeemed themselves with a strong, legal race in the consolation final Friday. But the relay quartet was not alone in putting Duke on the scoreboard as freshman Evan Moretti collected All-America honors in his NCAA debut.

Most of the Blue Devil squad will use this weekend’s meet as a rust-buster after spring break and the end of the indoor season before heading into the Battle of the Blues April 1-2, but for some athletes, the first opportunity to don the team uniform in 2016 could set the tone for the rest of the year.
