The “Winter Wonders" exhibit at the 5 Points Gallery is tenuously wintry and absolutely wonderful

This month, 5 Points Gallery in downtown Durham invites viewers to their “Winter Wonders: Gallery Members” exhibit. Through a carefully crafted mix of works both old and new, the exhibit shines a fresh light on the diversity of nine local artists both in perspective and medium.

Local non-profit B3 Coffee has found a fitting home in their kiosk at the Chapel Hill Public Library. Libraries, long-held as bastions of education and community congregation, provide individuals from all backgrounds the opportunity to connect with one another, learn and grow. B3 — using coffee as a means of providing community-integrated social and vocational opportunities for people of all abilities — is much the same. 


The social toll of being financially underprivileged at Duke

Turning down Heavenly Buffaloes in favor of Marketplace, looking underdressed and off-theme at a frat party, sparsely decorating your dorm room: these small sacrifices–seemingly minor–can take a social toll on financially-disadvantaged students when spending is so deeply ingrained in Duke culture. When you go to a school where 69 percent of students come from families in the top 20 percent, it makes sense—it’s just the culture.
