Duke basketball vs. Miami updates

(01/24/13 4:49am)

Duke 63, Miami 90 (final): Not much changed for either side as the clock ran out, with Miami still making seemingly every shot, especially with so many easy transition opportunities, and Duke finding only occasional chances to score. The crowd continued to be a noisy difference-maker for the Hurricanes as the Miami starters went to the bench to thunderous applause. Duke managed to avoid losing by 30 for the first time since 1984, but the loss is still the worst for Duke since that game. The Blue Devils leave the BankUnited Center having lost two of their last three games and with major question marks about their performance level as long as Ryan Kelly is out.

Duke football moves within one game of a bowl with a 42-17 win against Virginia

(10/07/12 5:24am)

At the onset of the fourth quarter, with Duke up 28-17, senior wide receiver Conner Vernon dove and pulled down a 45-yard bomb through double coverage for a touchdown. The play was an exclamation point on an already memorable win in which Duke moved within one game of bowl eligibility and Vernon became the ACC’s all-time leader in receptions.

Duke pays high cost for free throws

(02/06/12 5:00am)

Despite erasing a 16-point deficit in the second half to force overtime, an 0-for-6 performance from the free-throw line in overtime proved to be Duke’s undoing in a 78-74 loss to Miami Sunday at Cameron Indoor Stadium. It was No. 7 Duke’s second loss in its last three home games, and the first overtime game in Cameron since the Blue Devils won in extra time against Miami in 2009.
