Why is a white supremacist coming to Duke?

(02/11/20 5:13am)

John Bolton has yet to open his box of secrets surrounding what he knows about Trump’s collaboration with Ukraine, but he is still slated to speak at Page Auditorium on February 17. Despite declining to testify before the House in Trump’s impeachment inquiry, he still will address eager Duke students, per the invitation of the American Grand Strategy program.

Letter: Boycott the Young Trustee election

(02/11/20 5:00am)

The system used to screen, campaign and elect Young Trustees is broken. The position is riddled with ambiguity and almost zero accountability. Every time the Board meets, it takes critical decisions that have a huge impact on the lives of Duke students—tuition and housing fee hikes, changes to Campus organizations, changes to educational curriculums, future of Campus resources and programs for students, funding for athletic programs, the list just goes on.

The memories will have to do, though, because the Blue Devils face a sturdy, eighth-ranked Florida State squad Monday night. Both teams boast star power, but two are most likely to make the difference:

On Monday, February 17, Duke’s Program in American Grand Strategy will host war-monger John Bolton for a conversation on “The National Security Challenge of 2020.” Professor Peter Feaver, who will interview Bolton, commented that Bolton’s various roles in the Reagan, Bush (I and II) and Trump administrations present an “exciting opportunity to hear first-hand from a significant figure in American policy-making.” However, AGS’ announcement fails to list Bolton’s many concrete “achievements” beyond his titles. So, to better understand why Professor Feaver speaks so highly of Bolton—and why we should all be so excited to hear from him—I present the following list of John Bolton’s greatest hits:

You mind if I get a hit?

I often find myself daydreaming about how future generations will look back upon our current society. I think about this not only in the context of technological innovation and the age of Trump, but also in terms of more minute fixtures like Twitter culture, late 2000’s iOS games, and mumble rap. It’s likely that historians will botch or even just entirely forget these smaller yet essential details about our time. But something that I can only hope they write about is Juuling.
