As Provost Sally Kornbluth prepares to step down as Duke’s provost and chair of the Duke Kunshan University Board of Trustees, DKU has announced a new interim executive vice chancellor.
Kornbluth announced that Mary Frances Luce, the Robert A. Ingram professor of business administration at the Fuqua School of Business, was appointed by the DKU Board of Trustees to succeed Jennifer Francis as interim executive vice chancellor of DKU, according to a Tuesday email sent to DKU faculty, staff and students.
Following the announcement that Kornbluth will be the 18th president of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, President Vincent Price appointed Jennifer Francis to serve as interim provost of the University and as chair of the DKU Board of Trustees.
This promotion will require Francis to step away from the interim executive vice chancellor role at DKU.
“Mary Frances is a thoughtful and collaborative leader and educator who I am confident will be an outstanding partner to Chancellor Feng and the DKU leadership team,” Kornbluth wrote.
Luce has been a professor at Duke since 2004 and has served two terms as Fuqua’s senior associate dean for faculty. She has “worked closely with DKU’s senior administrative team as a senior advisor to the vice chancellor for academic affairs,” according to the email.
“It has been a tremendous honor to serve as chair of the DKU Board of Trustees and to participate in the growth and development of this very special university,” Kornbluth wrote. “DKU is an extraordinary community of scholars and learners who embody the ideals of interdisciplinary and global education and scholarship, and who believe deeply in the power of knowledge to make the world a better place.”
