They say the devil is in the details. But in Durham, the Blue Devils are in the details—and numbers:

In the last 16 seconds, Duke football lost its lead and fell to North Carolina in a gripping contest at Wallace Wade Stadium. Late in the fourth quarter, the Blue Devils held a slim four-point advantage and had the opportunity to seal the win at North Carolina’s 11-yard line. However, the ensuing penalties made for a disappointing series for Duke as it was pushed back to the 26-yard line. Even with three sacks from the Blue Devils’ compelling defensive line, it wasn’t enough for Duke to secure the victory. The Tar Heels drove 74 yards to scored a touchdown and leave just 16 seconds on the clock: the deciding score of the night.

Even in the loss, Blue Devil quarterback Riley Leonard recorded two personal bests during the game. The sophomore had a career-high 130 rushing yards, his longest attempt of the day going for 74 yards and a score. While Leonard’s 74-yard touchdown put Duke on top 14-10 in the first half, it also set the record for the longest touchdown run by a Blue Devil quarterback. He went up against North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye and did not disappoint, as Leonard accepted every opportunity and challenge presented to him during the close game. Yet, it was not enough as the Tar Heels secured their victory in the final seconds.

Number 14 Shakur Mohammed steered the path to victory for Duke men’s soccer against Notre Dame this week, scoring the only two goals of the night. He now has a team-high 16 this season. Number 14 stayed active throughout the entire 90 minutes. While his first shot in the 10th minute was saved by Notre Dame goalie Bryan Dowd, Mohammed scored just under 15 minutes later. The sophomore didn’t hold back even in the 81st minute; that's when he scored his second goal of the night to secure the win for the Blue Devils.

“I'm thrilled,” said men's golf head coach Jamie Green as the Blue Devils took first place at the Georgetown Intercollegiate in Jersey City, N.J. It was the first win of the season for Duke and set the stage for a record-breaking tournament. Junior Ian Siebers tied for first place and had a career-high two eagles, and freshmen Ethan Evans scored the first eagle of his Duke career. Yet as thrilled as Green was at the end, there were moments of uncertainty throughout the 54-hole tournament. The Blue Devils placed second and had a double-bogey on the first day. The rough start caused Duke to make some adjustments and excel the second day, leading to the first place finish.

The second period of the women’s soccer game against Florida State was crushing: The Seminoles scored four goals en route to the 5-1 final score. Both teams fought hard throughout the game, racking up 25 fouls, 13 from the Blue Devils. While Duke held the shot advantage in the first period, that quickly changed in the second half as Florida State tallied 10 shots. The Blue Devils lacked possession of the ball throughout the second half and the Seminoles quickly used this to their advantage. With just over 10 minutes left on the clock, Florida State secured the win with its fifth goal of the night.
