Duke men's basketball to host Elon Saturday

Elon will travel to Duke Saturday in a last-second scheduling shift.

Duke will play Saturday after all.

After the Blue Devils' game against Cleveland State and Loyola Maryland being canceled due to respective positive COVID-19 cases in each program, Duke announced it had nailed down a game against Elon Saturday at 4 p.m. at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

The news was first reported by Stadium's Jeff Goodman

Duke was supposed to play Elon last year before the Blue Devils canceled the remainder of their nonconference slate due to COVID-19 concerns. The Phoenix have struggled this year and are sitting at a 3-8 record, but they shoot a decent 36% from downtown and have a relatively balanced scoring approach with four players averaging double-digit points.

Elon head coach Mike Schrage spent some years as a Blue Devil, serving as director of basketball operations from 2002-2008 and the academic and recruiting coordinator from 1999-2002. The Phoenix are 0-7 all time against Duke, with this being Schrage's first time coaching against the Blue Devils as Elon's head coach.

This is Duke's last nonconference game before ACC play starts Dec. 22 against Virginia Tech.
